Physiotherapy in the CBD with Mason Neal

Why did you study Physiotherapy?

I studied my undergraduate at the University of Newcastle, doing my final year in Tamworth while doing my Honours research project on health education platforms available in rural and regional Australia, finishing in 2015. I then did my Masters of Sports Medicine online through the University of Melbourne during Covid, finishing in 2023. I am currently doing further postgraduate study in Pain Science / Pain Medicine aiming to finish that next year.

What conditions can Physiotherapy help with and what do you have a special interest in?

Physiotherapy can help a variety of conditions, not just the rolled ankle or sore back. Physios can help with musculoskeletal and sports injuries, post-operative rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation after a stroke, brain injury, or Parkinson's, cardiorespiratory rehabilitation after pneumonia or prolonged hospitalisation, male and female pelvic floor presentations, and paediatric and gerontological (elderly) issues.

I am a Titled Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist so my main interests are in sporting injuries, however I enjoy injuries from the shoulder to the hand in athletes that load the arm (like gymnasts, weightlifters, strongman athletes, and contact sports) the most. That said, I also enjoy treating adolescents with particular interest in adolescent knee and lower limb pain. Beyond that, I am also a Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist with particular experience and success in managing incontinence and sexual related pain and dysfunction (including dyspareunia) in both men and women.

What is something unique or interesting about you?

I have a Miniature English Bull Terrier puppy called Daemon, but he responds more to Shark. He has one brain cell rattling in his head but he's the cutest pup. You might see me walking him through the city or in the lower North Shore area if you're lucky.

Mason is a Titled Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist so his main interests are in sporting injuries.
